See Ya There.

On October 20, thousands of people across the country wore the color purple to stand in solidarity with LGBT teenagers who have taken their own lives due to bullying and unacceptance by their peers.

Many well-known, celebrities and media outlets supported the cause by wearing purple in observance of Spirit Day.

As impressive and promising as the day was, we cannot forget about such an important issue now that Spirit Day is over. There are still LGBT teens throughout the world who are fighting for acceptance and we need to stand by them. Whether it be, becoming involved with LGBT advocacy and equality groups, vocalizing your support in public, or just treating others with respect, we must continue to stand together.

If you are looking for ways to get involved, here are a few organizations worth looking at:

GLAAD (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) is a great resource to stay informed with stories from the LGBT community. Check out their website at: www.glaad.org.

The It Gets Better Project is a video project where LGBT Adults, speak on their experiences as a youth, directed at youth.

The Trevor Project is the leading national organization focused on crisis and suicide prevention efforts among LGBTQ youth.
